World Trade Center Cross One of the most visited sites for tourists in New York City is the World Trade Center and the symbolic cross made by a T-beam found in the ruins. Please note that as of October 4, 2006 the cross has been relocated one block north to St. Peter’s church to make way for construction at the WTC site. It’s expected to stay there until the Memorial Museum opens in 2009.

St. Pete’s church is located at 16 Barclay St, one block north of the World Trade Center. Google map.

Open House New York 2006

Posted October 5, 2006

Open House NY 2006 If you’re lucky enough to be visiting New York City this weekend you might want to check out Open House New York. This October 7th and 8th there will be 180 sites around New York City open to the public for free, many of which are normally not open to the public.

Tips: Not all open houses are on both days. Some locations require a reservation and many are fully booked. Also keep in mind that Open House New York is a very popular event and to expect LONG lines at the popular locations. Check the OHNY website for event listings and regularly check the updates page for last minute additions or cancellations.

Central Park Fall Foliage - Don’t Miss It!

Posted October 4, 2006 • Updated October 7, 2006

Peak Fall foliage in Central Park runs from about the second week in October to the first week in November. It’s not to be missed if you’re visiting during that time! In my opinion the best spots for finding beautiful autumn color in New York City is the east side of Central Park starting behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art down to Bethesda Fountain, Cherry Hill, and the Mall. For a bird’s eye view you can go to the top of Belvedere Castle (free) but I feel there’s not too much fall color to see from that vantage point.
