Do you think opera in New York City is too expensive? The Metropolitan Opera is now offering 200 orchesta seats every weeknight for just $20. Tickets, which normally sell for $100, go on sale two hours before showtime.
Visit the Metropolitan Opera website for this weeks performances.
If you lived in the New York City area when A Chorus Line first opened you might remember the original television commerical. Ahh the memories… kind of like the Milford Plaza commerical. Opening to fantastic reviews, A Chorus Line may be the best musical this season.
“In an empty theatre, on a bare stage, casting for a new Broadway musical is almost complete. The field’s been narrowed down to just 17 dancers. For these men and women, this audition is the chance of a lifetime. It’s what they’ve worked for — with every drop of sweat, every hour of training, every day of their lives. It’s the one opportunity to do what they’ve always dreamed of. Not to be the star, but to get the job … to have the chance to dance and come through.
But before the final cut is made, the director Zach asks each of them to talk about themselves. He starts by asking their name, age, hometown and reason for being a dancer. But Zach wants more than just their resumes. He wants to know about their families, friends, lovers, ambitions and careers. One by one, they come forward.
Some are shy or reluctant, while others are more than happy to reveal their innermost thoughts. From funny to heartbreaking, these 17 dancers share with us the stories of their lives. They put themselves on the line to get a job on the line. And when they’re done, so is the audition. And the final chorus line of 8 dancers is chosen. “

The Rockefeller Center ice skating rink opened this year on October 7th. Skating under the lights of the Rockefeller Christmas tree is a unique New York City experience. The rink is 122 feet long and 59 feet wide and 150 skaters can be on the ice at a time.
Tip: Everything looks bigger on t.v. and in pictures, right? The Rockfellar skating rink is small. (If you’ve skated here before I’d recommend going to Wollman Rink instead. Wollman is bigger and just another rink to experience.) Friday through Sunday is very crowded so expect long lines. If you can, try visiting the rink during an early weekday. If you really want to skate under at night under the lights try a weekday afternoon or night.
Admission: Adults Monday-Thusday is $10. Friday-Sunday and holidays it’s $14.
Children under 11 and seniors Monday-Thursday is $7.50. Friday-Sunday and holidays it’s $8.50
Skate rentals are $7.50 so if you don’t have skates with you know that you’ll pay an additional $7.50. If you need a locker to store your things expect an additional charge.
Getting there: Subway B, D, F, V to Rockefeller Center/47-50 Streets
