A FREE Walking Tour

It’s good to be skeptical, especially in New York City, but Big Apple Greeter really gives free tours with no strings attached. This isn’t a time share scam or any kind of sales pitch, Big Apple Greeter is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to enhance New York City’s worldwide image and to enrich the New York experience by connecting business and leisure travelers with knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers.
Knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers known as “Greeters” promote New York’s small town charm by accompanying visitors on 2-4 hour journeys in any of the five boroughs, free of charge. Although they can assist visitors in seeing the better known tourist attractions, their main focus as volunteer friends is to share their favorite neighborhoods and to show visitors the little things they’ll often miss. Whether it’s finding the tastiest bagel or unraveling the mysteries of the subway system, Greeters ensure a personal view of the city as only a native New Yorker can. We want visitors to feel as though they can get to know a native New Yorker therefore the Big Apple Greeter service is not a group tour. Our visitors are individuals 2-6 friends or a family.
All you have to do is complete the request form 3-4 weeks before your arrival. While you can request a neighborhood to visit, I’d recommend the “Greeter’s Choice” option.
