Visit the Fulton Fish Market before it’s gone

Now is the time to visit the Fulton Fish Market before it moves. The 184 year old market is a classic New York institution that is worth checking out, and the looming Brooklyn Bridge in the background makes for great photographs. Hurry up though because it’s about to close shop and move to Hunts Point in the Bronx to a state of the art warehouse. The move date was supposed to happen Summer of 2005 but as of this post it still has yet to move. Don’t miss out on a piece of New York City history that is about to disappear forever (and get converted into luxury condos).

When to go: The best times to visit the Fulton Fish Market are Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 1:00am to 7:00am. Yes that’s a.m.! If you go on a weekend or during the day all you’ll find are empty streets. If that’s a little too early, be sure to check out the South Street Seaport during the day. The Seaport is located next to the fish market.

Getting there: The Fulton Fish Market is located at South St. and Fulton St, downtown. Click here for the Google map. You can take the A, C to Broadway/Nassau or the 2, 3, 4, 5, J, M, Z trains to the Fulton Street stop and walk east (downhill) on Fulton St. towards the East River.

What to bring: Bring a camera and old clothes and shoes. The ground is wet and the air smelly especially in the hot summer.
